Why doesn't Twitter search find my tweets?

Here's an old tweet of mine:

WideCharToMultiByte tweet

Why does it not appear when searching for WideCharToMultiByte:

Twitter Search fail

What am I missing here? Shouldn't a tweet appear in the search result when using one of the the words from the tweet as a search term?

Some of my tweets are coming up in the search result though. For example, a search for freefixer shows some of my tweets.

  1. I searched this problem on Google (thus finding your blog entry). I, too, notice my tweets don't always get through on "search." I've tried tracking my @reply tweets to see if someone got 'em, and they don't always show up. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I then wonder if the person I @replied/tweeted got my tweet. But since I never ask them (they're sometimes people I don't even know, just "famous" people I'm asking about their work, etc.), not sure. I guess in that case it's not that important if they got 'em, but if you're trying to get people to read your tweets or get new followers by finding your posts via keyword search, I can see how that would be annoying. Someone needs to ask Twitter, I guess.

  2. I'm guessing tweets no longer appear in the search result when they get older than, say 14 days.
